OAGS President's Message:
Saturday, November 2 - Hilton Toronto, Toronto, Ontario
Dear Colleagues,
It was great to welcome positive news from the OMA arbitration process and physicians being rewarded a 9.95% increase in Year 1 of the PSA - the largest increase in ~40 years. The hard work by our physician advocates and the arbitrator’s sensibility needs to be commended: Shabaash! (Shabash (Shabhash, Sabash, Sabaash or Shavash) is a term used in the Indian subcontinent to signal commendation for an achievement, similar in meaning to bravo and kudos.)
The OAGS board has been working diligently behind the scenes over the last few months to bring an amazing OAGS conference in November at the Hilton in downtown Toronto. It is now called the OAGS Surgical Symposium! This year again we have an amazing line-up of speakers and topics, and our keynote speaker Dr. K. Inaba from USC will be giving two talks based around trauma care.
Something different this year will be a mixer (one winery and one brewery will be represented -TBA) after the business meeting with no banquet afterwards. This will leave the rest of the evening open for attendees to explore the multitude of great restaurants in the heart of the city.
We have also teamed up with CAGS for them to offer a polypectomy course on Sunday, November 3, 2024 (separate event). What better way to get additional learning credits, especially hands on learning credits! I hope to see all of you there! Feel free to send questions and comments to info@oags.org.

Our mission centres on 3 main values: Advocacy, Education, Quality
The Ontario Association of General Surgeons (OAGS) is a non-profit organization that represents General Surgeons throughout the province of Ontario. It is an interest group that works with other organizations toward improving the working conditions of General Surgeons, quality of general surgery and, in turn, the overall health care conditions of their patients. We also help facilitate research via our Annual Resident Research Grant Competition. We have been celebrating over 20 years of service since 1995/96 and hope to continue acting as the voice of General Surgeons of Ontario for years to come.
We contribute to continuing professional development (CPD) via our OAGS Annual Meeting and webinars. We're back in person at the Hilton Hotel. It promises to have an impressive slate of guest speakers and a great selection of sub-specialty topics. Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the meeting!
